Are Jehovah’s Witnesses Politically Neutral?

J.F. Rutherford - the 2nd President of the Watchtower SocietyHowdy guys and gals. I know it’s been a while since our last post but we have been on holiday and that’s the excuse I’m shovelling. Plus, the author of the fantastic book Falling In Truth, Steve McRoberts, has been keeping the pan hot for us on the commenting side. So thanks for doing that Steve. And B_Lo, if you’re reading this, chin up lad.

Anyway, I went to the camel park in Larnaca, Cyprus yesterday and thought I’d try the old ‘camel through the eye of the needle’ trick. I mean, where else would I get the opportunity to do this, right? As I’m not rich, I decided to take that old Jewish guys word for it and see how much camel I could get through the hollow bit at the end of a needle. Truly I tell you today, it’s easier getting a rich fellow into Belgium (that’s a kingdom as King Albert II still rules the roost) than it is to squeeze a camel through a tiny bit of manufactured carbon steel wiring.

As we’re talking about Kingdoms and camels, I wanted to bring your attention to the ultimate neutrality shown by Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s an honour to still technically be a Witness, especially as we are all so very neutral. Take a look at J.F. Rutherford – the 2nd President of the Watchtower Society. ‘The Judge,’ as he liked to call himself, loved the Jews. You just have to read his quote in the 1934 Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses:

“It has been the commercial Jews of the British-American empire that have built up and carried on Big Business as a means of exploiting and oppressing the peoples of many nations….This fact is so manifest in America that there is a proverb concerning the city of New York….’the Jews own it, the Irish Catholics rule it, and the Americans pay the bills.'” Page 135 & 136 of the 1934 Yearbook Of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

As you can see, The head of the Watchtower Society – God’s very own religion here on Earth – was very neutral. In fact, his next comment in the yearbook shows just how neutral he was:

“The present government of Germany has declared emphatically against Big Business oppressors and in opposition to the wrongful religious influence in the political affairs of the nation. Such is exactly our position:…Instead of being against the principles advocated by the government of Germany, we stand squarely for such principles and point out that Jehovah God through Christ Jesus will bring about the full realization of these principles…”

Aren’t you proud to be part of this Godly Organisation? I know I am.

Now then, I’ve got a camel, have you got a needle that’s big enough?

“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented”.-Elie Wiesel
The court of law will prosecute and sentence people who are aware of crimes being committed and who say and do nothing to stop it. If Jehovah is the Almighty Judge, wouldn’t his standards be the same or higher? He didn’t instruct the Israelites to sit back and do nothing and just let him take care of wrongs. He commanded them to fight wars, help the oppressed, and take initiative. If He is supposed to be unchanging, why do the Governing Body think He changed his standards?

Sounds like the pontifications of a drunk… wasn’t that his secret sin? Other than a nasty temper, and … dare I go on?
